Primary level education
SPRINGBOARD TO LANGUAGES - a flying start!
Springboard
is a bold new initiative designed to raise language awareness for all
pupils at Key Stage 2. Ideal as a preparation for learning other
languages the programme helps ease transition to KS3, lends itself to
cross-curricular activities and to KS2 Literacy and Numeracy work; it
is particularly suitable for the non-specialist teacher of foreign
languages in primary schools.
We are looking for schools willing to pilot the programme
- all materials and support free.
For more information, or to order an information pack and sample
materials, please go to:

Buchanan Prize for Esperanto - University of Liverpool
Since
the 1930's, the University of Liverpool has had a Lectureship in
Esperanto, endowed by Dr. John Buchanan, an enthusiast for Esperanto
who had worked in Liverpool at one point in his career. The current
Buchanan Lecturer (2010) is Professor Wim Jansen of the University of
Amsterdam, an international expert on interlinguistics and Esperanto.
The University also awards a 'Buchanan Prize' for outstanding work in
Esperanto. In the past, it was awarded on the basis of an essay
competition but henceforth it will be used for postgraduate research
into topics related to Esperanto.
